This page will help explain how you can ally with the Grox, who/what the Grox are, as well as how to defeat them.
Wait, who are the Grox? The Grox are a huge empire occupying the centre rim of the Spore galaxy who will occasionally (but rarely) attack your planets. By default, the Grox will have an unfriendly/enemy disposition (orange face) towards you and will attack you if you traverse their territory. They behave like other empires in Space but there are a few key differences:
- The Grox don't expand from their original territory in the centre of the galaxy, and if they do they do it at a very slow rate.
- They may not have a home world.
- The Grox do not require a positive T-Score which means they inhabit barren planets. Infact, a positive T-Score will kill them and thus will worsen their relations toward you.
- Unlike other empires, breaking the galactic code will increase their relations toward you.
- Also, unlike any other empire, Maxis has made it so that the Grox always appear in the same place, every time; whether you start a new game or not! Other empires appear randomly or by chance.
They sound awesome! Can I play as them in the game? Nope, you cannot play with them in the game. One, the game would be hardly challenging if you could and two, you would constantly have other empires attacking your planets, remembering that their disposition towards other empires is by default, enemy.
OK, how do I ally with them?
The following things will contribute to positive relations with the Grox, note: you need to do a combination of all of these things if you want to ally with the Grox. After you have maxed out your relations for doing the following, it is HIGHLY recommended that you save the game (if you didn't screw up) and move onto doing the next. If you screw up, just reload the game.
- Bribe them: You can bribe the Grox which will raise their relations towards you +2 points for every 100,000 Sporebux. You will not get any more then +10 to your relations using this method.
- Embassy: drop an embassy on one of their planets. Overtime, you will get +10 relations with them.
- Using Friendly Tools +30: Use the Happy Ray or Fireworks near one of their cities. Using friendly tools will get you a maximum of +30 relations.
This should get you to "Neutral" status with the Grox (yellow face). Do the following to make up the rest until you get to "Friendly"
- Doing Missions: Do several missions for the Grox. Missions can be
accessed when you are over one of their planets by using the
communicator. Successfully completing missions gives you a max of +50 relations. If you get a mission where you have to collect an artefact from one of their planets, quit the mission or reload the save (from the main menu) and re-initiate the mission.
This should get you up to "Friendly" (blue face) with them, but they will still attack you until you are allies with them. Do the following to make up the rest of the ground:
- Breaking the Galactic Code: Blow up a few planets (not ones that the Grox inhabit as that will obviously make them hate you). You can get up to +50 relations.
- Establish Trade Routes: Establish three trade routes with them. This will get you +25 relation over time.
This should make them very happy with you (green face) which means you can initiate into a formal alliance with them, and thus, they will stop attacking you. NOTE: You HAVE to initiate an alliance before they will stop attacking you! Once you are allied with the Grox, do not use violence or weapons towards them, this will put them at outright war with you. Also, make sure you have your auto-blaster turned off and dismiss your ally spaceships as any use of hostile force toward the Grox will make it literally impossible to ally with them.
Allying with the Grox will cause ALL other empires in the Galaxy to hate you (-200 relations)! While it is possible to rectify this with bribes, it will cost you a LOT of Sporebux to make the other empires neutral towards you.
Defeating the Grox Defeating the Grox is without a doubt the most time-consuming approach of driving them out of the galaxy. If your archetype is a Zealot (to get it, you must have two green, two red from the earlier stages), you will have the Fanatical Frenzy at your disposal, which when used on Grox planets it will convert them to your empire without actually lowering your relationship with them! If anything, it increases your relations with them because you are breaking the Galactic code (this is a good method if you are already allies with the Grox because you won't actually anger them), but because of the fact that the Fanatical Frenzy has a 60 Minute cool-down time, this method can be very time consuming. If you are allies with the Grox, you can also establish trade routes with the Grox planets and purchase them. This is also very time consuming and you will spend a lot of time waiting to be able to purchase them.
The second approach involves the use of massive military force against the Grox worlds! If you are thinking of using this method, make sure you have the Extreme Health and Extreme Energy Storage upgrades -- you will need them. Bring with you a LOT Mega Health Packs and Mega Energy Packs also. Colony Incredi-Paks will also come in handy for this as you need to set up a colony every now and then to repair and recharge. In addition to this, have the following equipment with you:
- Mega Bomb - Strongest ground bomb, good for general ground assault
- Mega Pulse - Strongest pulse, good for targeted strikes
- Shield - Makes you invincible for a short time
- Mega Auto Blaster - Shoots ships that are chasing you as you zoom in and out
- Planet Buster - Quickly wipe them out by using this tool.
When zoom in on a Grox planet, straight away, go to their city (or one of their cities if they have more then one) and use the Mega Bombs to quickly wipe it out. If it has no buildings, it will take only a couple of shots to wipe out the city, but if it does have buildings, it will take 5+ shots to completely wipe it. If you have planet busters, use that against some of their planets.
